Resumen:
|
Many airports around the world have recently
built or are in the process of constructing or rebuilding new terminals.
Airlines operating in those airports must be reallocated between the new
and old facilities. In this paper we construct a theoretical model which
shows that, in general, if airlines are allocated to separate terminals,
the level of competition between airlines is reduced, ticket prices
become higher and consumer surplus and social welfare lower. Only in some
routes, and under certain conditions on the market size, ticket prices
may be lower.

Resumen:
|
Many airports around the world suffer from peak-load demand
problems. To meet demand at the peak periods, airports need to
over-invest in capacity. However, the costs associated with the peak-load
problem are not only those related to the new investment but much more
extensive affecting other economic agents. We use data from the airport
in Gran Canaria where the peaks in capacity are associated with tourist
arrivals and departures. We estimate the costs that demand peaks impose
not only on agents located inside the airport, but also to the society in
general. The aim of this paper is to provide a methodology for analyzing
the costs imposed on those agents and to explore alternative airport
policies.

Resumen:
|
Transport activity
is strongly linked to environmental damage. However, transport operators
may reduce their pollutant emissions through abatement effort. The
government can make use of several instruments to increase operator's
abatement effort, such as emissions taxes, emission subsidies or
technological standards. All these instruments induce different effects
on the number of operations to be offered and on the overall distortions
of the economy. The optimal ranking of policies may strongly depend on whether
regulators consider or not the effect that frequency has on consumers'
generalized price. Thus, the main purpose of this paper is to highlight
the importance of such an effect on regulation policies.

Resumen:
|
